Sickness Care- Reactively treats the symptoms of disease
Wellness Care- Proactively prevents disease and slows aging
Healthcare in the United States is for the most part sickness care, versus wellness which is preventing diseases from happening in the first place. This article is about wellness.
Wellness Prescription
- Be at your normal body weight. Refer to the BMI charts we have available on our website. If you need to lose weight, follow our Phase 1-3 Weight Loss diet.
- Stay on an anti-inflammatory, high antioxidant, high fiber diet. Basic Health Regimen diet and supplementation is available on our website.
- Be and stay in normal alignment. Misaligned joints accumulate arthritis daily. Many areas are accumulating significant arthritis and are not painful, and will only be painful when they are extremely damaged. Misaligned spinal and cranial bones can create abnormal nerve and blood flow problems to any organ or area of the body. Allergies, chronic infection, poor vascular flow in the legs, seizures, headaches, heart arythmias, digestive dysfunction, vision and hearing problems, child developmental problems, dizziness and vertigo, and hundreds of others common problems.
- Use natural medicines for deficiencies and weaknesses to reverse and avoid diseases. We primarily use kinesiology testing to test the body`s reflex points for all the major body systems and problems. We secondarily supplement that information with standard lab diagnostic testing; blood work, MRIs, CT scans, neurotransmitter testing, hormone and allergy testing.
Detoxifying for better heath!
February 16, 2010
Dr. David Majercin D.C.
It used to be a very popular part of detoxifying and health regimes to incorporate fasting. However the newer approach is to have adequate amounts of amino acids, minerals, and essential fatty acids to drive the natural detoxification mechanisms in the body.
With a lack of essential nutrients, more toxins like various heavy metals are retained versus being shed. In addition to ensuring that patients have adequate nutritional intake, it also can be very important to use natural medicines to facilitate detoxification pathways from the liver, intestines, or lymphatic system.
Many diseases today we find have an underlying toxicity as the causative agent. Ovarian cysts, Parkinson`s disease, hepatitis, reoccurring infections, hormone imbalance to just name a few problems that we have found directly caused by toxicity.
At our clinic, the 1st thing we usually do is a kinesiology exam and test the acupuncture points that relate to toxicity. We then can set up a specific regimen for the particular imbalance. If need be, we will also order diagnostic testing if deemed valuable. The success rate using natural medicine is very high.
Live longer with less disease taking enzymes?
Dr. David Majercin D.C.
Low calorie diets and fasting have interested me for many years. There is a lot of studies that correlate longevity with low cal diets. One of the main researchers I have found to be helpful was Edward Howell M.D. and his work on enzymes.
Some of the studies on animals show that the ones who eat raw food diets versus completely cooked or enzymes-less foods have longer lives and less disease. Animals on the all cooked food diets had more pathology in various organs like their pancreas.
Dr Howell hypothesized that when a diet that included a large percentage of raw food, the naturally occurring food enzymes would break down a lot of the food eaten, so that the pancreas would not have to work as hard to produce enzymes to digest food. Dr. Howell thought that the digestive system may be over worked from having to digest such a large percentage of our total calories. It was thought that the digestive system might rob nutrients from other systems just to keep up with the over worked system.
Our eating habits have radically changed with modern food processing were enzymes are taken out of food to give longer self life. Dr Howell thought that it was impractical for the average person to eat a raw food diet, so he created the 1st digestive enzyme supplement to digest the food before it reaches the small intestine to signal pancreatic enzymes.
After studying Howell`s work and others and seeing my own blood under a microscope before and after eating meals with and without enzymes (not pretty), I have been a big believer in daily enzyme usage.
I also think the total caloric load, quality of the nutrients, and health of the persons digestive system influences the amount of free radical chemicals created from food that potentially creates disease in the body and possibly shortens life span.
At our clinic as a general protocol, we have people take 1 Digestion (enzyme formula) per 300 calories.
Flax Seed Oil and Disease
December 3, 2009
Flaxseed oil is derived from the seeds of the flax plant. Flaxseed oil and flaxseed contain substances that promote good health. One of these substances is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial for heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, and other health conditions. Flaxseed, in addition to ALA, contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer.
ALA, as well as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), belongs to a group of substances called omega-3 fatty acids. EPA and DHA are found primarily in fish while ALA is mostly found in flaxseed oil and other vegetable oils. Although similar in structure, the benefits of ALA, EPA, and DHA are not necessarily the same.
It is important to maintain an appropriate balance of omega-3 and omega-6 (another essential fatty acid) in the diet, as these two substances work together to promote health. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and most omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. An inappropriate balance of these essential fatty acids contributes to the development of disease while a proper balance helps maintain and even improve health. A healthy diet should consist of roughly 2 - 4 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. The typical American diet tends to contain 14 - 50 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids, and many researchers believe this imbalance is a significant factor in the rising rate of inflammatory diseases in the United States.
Research shows low incidence of breast cancer and colon cancer in populations that have high amounts of lignan in their diet.
Studies show that Omega-3 fatty acids help lower cholesterol and blood triglycerides, and prevent clots in arteries, which may result in strokes, heart attacks and thromboses.
Helps protect the body against high blood pressure, inflammation, water retention, sticky platelets and lowered immune function.
Shortens recovery time for fatigued muscles after exertion.
Increases the body’s production of energy and also increases stamina.
Accelerates the healing of sprains and bruises.
Eases weight loss in people afflicted with obesity.
Stimulates brown fat cells and increases the metabolic rate making it easier to burn off fat.
Improves the absorption of Calcium.
Strengthens fingernails and toenails.
Can improve eyesight and perception of colors.
Can often improve the function of the liver.
Can relieve the side effects and stop development of many forms of cancer.
Can relieve some cases of Asthma.
Helpful in the treatment of Eczema, Psoriasis, and Dandruff.
Can relieve the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It can relieve the symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus.
Can alleviate some allergies.
Helps prevent Atherosclerosis (the accumulation of fatty deposits inside the blood vessels, especially the large and medium-sized arteries).
Lowers high blood pressure in Hypertension sufferers.
Has been scientifically proven to treat some cases of depression.
Can improve the mental function.
Can relieve some cases of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) in females.
Unfortunately, our current diets do not come close to meeting our daily essential fatty acids requirements. In addition, more typical foods like red meats and egg yolks can actually encourage the body’s production of bad prostaglandins. Flax Seed oil can help restore the body’s natural balance of good and bad prostaglandins.
Dr. Johanna Budwig and her Use of Flax to Cure Disease
Dr. Johanna Budwig is one of Germany’s top biochemists, seven time Nobel Prize nominee, as well one of the best cancer researchers throughout all of Europe is one of the greatest authorities on diet and its relation to health and well-being. Dr. Budwig lectured on the connection between “bad” fats like hydrogenated margarines and illness as well as the importance of essential fatty acids back in the 1950s. Dr. Budwig said, “Without these fatty acids, the respiratory enzymes cannot function and the person suffocates, even when he is given oxygen-rich air. A deficiency in these highly unsaturated fatty-acids impairs many vital functions. First of all, it decreases the person’s supply of available oxygen. We cannot survive without air and food; nor can we survive without these fatty acids.” She recognized that with the advent and popularity of hydrogenated and overprocessed oils came an increase in the rates of several serious illnesses. She realized that the way foods are now processed eliminates virtually all of the essential fatty acids. So, Dr. Budwig decided to focus her career on finding the dietary solution to cure diseases that affect so many people in the world.
Dr. Budwig has spent a lot of time in her career studying the blood of cancer patients. In fact, one of her observations discovered that in general, blood that comes from a healthy person contains far greater levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids than blood samples taken from someone who is ill.
She began to test her hypothesis on cancer patients, involving a combination of organic flaxseed oil and quark, a type cultured whey used in Germany equivalent to cold processed whey powder.
Dr. Budwig chose organic flaxseed oil because it is the richest source of Omega 3 essential fatty acids, as well as being well-tolerated by most people and easily assimilated. She opted to mix the oil with quark because of its high levels of sulfurated protein. She knew from her extensive studies that this type of healthy oil requires a sulfurated protein in order for it to be utilized in the body. Specifically, when the protein combined with the oil, Dr. Budwig discovered that the flaxseed oil would actually become water soluble, meaning that it would be absorbed more easily. In order to achieve results like Dr. Budwig a combination of the oil and protein is necessary.
Amazingly, Dr. Budwig found that after only three short months on her flaxseed oil-quark combination, cancer patients began to improve. Tumors shrunk in size, patients’ strength returned, and further blood analysis showed that the infamous greenish-yellow substance did indeed go away. Phosphatide and lipoprotein levels returned to normal, and red blood cell amounts were once again at healthy amounts. She was even able to help the patients whose doctors had told to “go home and die.” In fact, after over 10 years of clinical research, Dr. Budwig’s combination of 2-5 tablespoons of organic flaxseed oil combined with one quarter cup of quark has been used successfully in Europe to treat a variety of diseases in addition to cancer, including arteriosclerosis, eczema, stomach and intestinal disorders, arthritis, and strokes.
The Average adult would do well with 1-2 tablespoons per day. People with significant health issues should consult their health care practitioner about using 4 tablespoons per day. To get the all the benefits of Dr. Budwig`s research of combining it with sulfured amino acids, take the oil at the same time with Cold Processed Whey 1-1.5 scoops.
