Inflazyme is a systemic proteolytic enzyme preparation used to assist with inflammation, injuries, and infections. Numerous studies have shown that proteolytic enzymes taken orally reduce pain and inflammation from injuries and surgery. Proteolytic enzyme supplementation reduces inflammation by multiple chemical pathway to repair and regenerate injured tissues. Sinus infection, traumatic injury, sports injury, arthritic, rheumatic and muscular pains, dental surgery, bacterial, yeast, fungal and viral infection, cardio-vascular obstuction and related ailments, edema, digestive disorders, auto-immune disorders, elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, pelvic inflammatory conditions, herpes infection, common cold and flu are all conditions that can be helped by enzyme therapy.

Injuries: Bruises, Strain, Sprain, Fractures
A double-blind, placebo-controlled studies with sports-related injuries found that treatment with proteolytic enzymes improved healing time by about 50%. Three additional small double-blind studies, involving a total of about 80 athletes, found that treatment with proteolytic enzymes significantly improved the healing of bruises and other mild athletic injuries as compared to placebo. Another study involving 71 individuals with finger fractures found that treatment with proteolytic enzymes improved recovery times. In another double-blind trial, 100 people were treated for experimentally induced hematomas (bruises) with proteolytic enzymes. The researchers found that enzyme treatment significantly speeded recovery.

Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
Double-blind, placebo-controlled studies found that use of a proteolytic enzyme reduces pain symptoms as compared to a placebo.

Osteoarthritis
A clinical trial demonstrated significant improvement for individuals with degenerative arthritis of the lower spine and sciatica-type leg pain. A study involving more than 300 people compared proteolytic enzymes to the standard anti-inflammatory medications for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the shoulder, back, or knee. The results showed equivalent benefits with the supplement and the medication.

Accelerated Aging
Systemic enzymes reduce advanced glycation end products (AGEs) that cause organ damage and general accelerated aging in people; wrinkles, saggy skin, joint damage, vascular damage, eye lens damage, and cartilage damage. AGEs are produced by high blood sugar spikes, frying and baking foods above 250 degrees (very high fry temperatures produce more), fructose, chemical preservatives, browned foods such as meats, roasted coffee beans, browned bread crust.

Pediatric Practice
A four year trial was done with use of systemic enzyme therapy in the treatment of recurrent respiratory diseases in children including; recurrent bronchitis, asthma, and recurrent laryngitis accompanied by rhinitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and otitis, and eczema. Children received enzymes at the daily dose of 1 coated tablet per 6 kg body weight. Daily dose was divided into 2-3 subdoses. Prior to the start of enzyme treatment children underwent laboratory examinations and physical exams. Treatment duration was 6 months.

The enzyme treatment led to a reduction of recurrence and shortness of breaths attacks in patients suffering from recurrent bronchitis, laryngitis, and asthma. In children with eczema, a marked improvement of skin condition was observed and outlasted for several months after end of enzyme therapy.
Systemic enzyme therapy resulted in reduction of both frequency and severity of diseases. Therefore, associated prescription of antibiotics was also significantly reduced.

Reduces Chronic Reoccurring Infections
One study documented the occurrence of infections in 37 chronically ill children for one year, and then the occurrence of infection was documented in the children the following year while on systemic proteolytic enzymes. The children got sick 5.4 times a year the 1st year observed. The second year while on enzyme treatment the same children only got sick only 1.8 times a year. Also interesting was the reduction of antibiotic consumption by 72%.

Children were  treated with a systemic enzymes at the daily dose of 1 coated tablet per 6 kg body weight. The dosage was divided into 2 daily doses and administered on empty stomach. Small children who were unable to swallow the whole tablet used crushed tablets strictly on empty stomach with plenty of water. Daily dosage was divided into 2 doses. Daily dose in these cases was increased to 1 coated tablet per 4 kg body weight.

Urinary Tract Infections.
Studies show improved resolution of UTIs with systemic enzyme therapy. Shortened length of UTI and healed the inflammation faster than placebo.

Laryngitis
One study showed that patients with recurrent laryngitis that did not respond to standard medical care was completely corrected with enzyme therapy.

Reduction of Allergies
Separate studies on adults and children show improvement in allergies with systemic enzyme therapy.

Viral Activity: Shingles, HIV, Hepatitis
Shingles is caused by the herpes zoster virus, the same virus that causes chicken pox. A double-blind study of 190 people with shingles compared proteolytic enzymes to the antiviral drug acyclovir. Participants were treated for 14 days and their pain was assessed at intervals. Both groups had similar pain relief, but the enzyme-treated group experienced fewer side effects. Another double-blind study in which 90 people were given either an injection of acyclovir or proteolytic enzymes followed by a course of oral medication for 7 days showed similar beneficial results. Additional studies have investigated the use of proteolytic enzymes as a treatment for other viral agents including HIV, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B.

Cancer Therapy
Nicholas Gonzalez M.D., world renown cancer specialist, has done much research and successful treatment on many types of cancer, allergies, autoimmune disorders, and chronic fatigue primarily using high doses of pancreatic enzymes with dietary changes and vitamin supplements.

Cancer Therapeutics
Dr. Wrba, Chair of Oncology at the University of Vienna, has carried the message of oral systemic enzyme therapy to his colleagues. What Dr. Wrba has seen in treating more than one-thousand patients and overseeing countless other cases has convinced him of the utility of systemic oral enzyme therapy in cancer therapeutics. In Germany, systemic oral enzymes are not officially accepted for cancer therapeutics, says Dr. Wrba, yet, in practice, “almost every patient gets them.”

Dr. Wrba explained how systemic oral enzymes help in the prevention of cancer and in cancer therapeutics. Cancer cells hide themselves under a thick coat of adhesive fibrin. The thickened coat hides away from the body’s immune defenders. The cancer cells grow because of the absence or inadequate presence of enzymes that are capable of stripping the fibrin away from the individual cancer cells. The more cancer cells the body produces, the more enzymes that are required.

At the Austrian Cancer Research Institute at the University of Vienna, Dr. Wrba and his researchers have discovered that treating cells with enzyme mixtures caused substantial secretions of a chemical called tumor necrosis factor. Tumor necrosis factor or TNF is secreted by immune cells and capable of attacking cancer cells and those cells infected with viruses. It is vital to our body’s cancer defenses.

In general, enzymes are used as complementary therapy in combination with other modes of treatment. Clinical data support their efficacious use in brain tumors; epithelial tumors in the region of the head and neck; lung cancer; malignant melanoma; multiple myeloma; leukemia; T cell lymphomas; stomach and colon cancer; cancerous diseases of the abdomen; pancreatic cancer; and tumors of the cervix, breast and uterus. The benefits extend to life prolongation, quality of life, and improvement in cancer markers.

Everyday Dr. Wrba takes 15-20 pancreatic enzyme tablets to help reduce his risk for cancer and to take advantage of their overall healthful properties.

How Systemic Enzymes Modify Tumor Cells & Immune Function to Fight Cancer
Effects on tumor cells
Changes in the coating substances and changes in the cell surfaces (increase in the immunogenicity)
Exposure of the tumor cell antigens (increase in the immunogenicity)
Decrease in the adhesive powers

Effects on the immunological system
Degradation of circulating immune complexes.
Increase in phagocytes.
Activation of macrophages and natural killer cells (direct attack against the tumor cells) Secretion of cell messenger substances (TNF,interleukin)
Inhibition of the adhesion molecules important for metastasis
Increase in degradation of fibrin

Cardiovascular Health
Reducing the incidence of blood clots, known to be induced by the sudden breakdown of vulnerable plaque.
Reducing the incidence of heart attacks and strokes because of its anti-thrombotic, anti-spasmodic, anti-arrhythmic and cholesterol lowering abilities.

Postmyocardial Infarction Patients.
The effect of systemic enzyme therapy on the serum atherogenicity and immunoinflammatory reactions was studied over the period of 6 months in the postmyocardial infarction patients at the rehabilitation stage. Enzyme therapy reduced atherogenic plaguing potential and showed a positive effect on inflammatory process mediators that lead to new plaque development.

Diabetes Mellitus.
Studies show that systemic enzyme usage can reduce H1Ac and amount of insulin needed to control diabetes. By controlling inflammation and circulating immune complexes enzyme therapy can potentially reduce secondary diseases produced by diabetes.

Enzyme Therapy in Diabetic Nephropathy
Improved kidney function was observed with enzyme usage in patients with diabetic nephropathy. Stauder G., Enzyme Therapy in Diabetic Nephropathy – Experimental and First Clinical Data. 6th Taormina Course of Nephrology. October 20th - 22th, 2000, pp. 227-232

Precautions
InflaZyme may have anti-coagulant properties and could change dosing requirements of anti-coagulant/ blood thinning medications.

Flax Seed Oil and Disease

December 3, 2009

Flaxseed oil is derived from the seeds of the flax plant. Flaxseed oil and flaxseed contain substances that promote good health. One of these substances is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial for heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, and other health conditions. Flaxseed, in addition to ALA, contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer.

ALA, as well as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), belongs to a group of substances called omega-3 fatty acids. EPA and DHA are found primarily in fish while ALA is mostly found in flaxseed oil and other vegetable oils. Although similar in structure, the benefits of ALA, EPA, and DHA are not necessarily the same.

It is important to maintain an appropriate balance of omega-3 and omega-6 (another essential fatty acid) in the diet, as these two substances work together to promote health. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and most omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. An inappropriate balance of these essential fatty acids contributes to the development of disease while a proper balance helps maintain and even improve health. A healthy diet should consist of roughly 2 - 4 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. The typical American diet tends to contain 14 - 50 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids, and many researchers believe this imbalance is a significant factor in the rising rate of inflammatory diseases in the United States.

Research shows low incidence of breast cancer and colon cancer in populations that have high amounts of lignan in their diet.
Studies show that Omega-3 fatty acids help lower cholesterol and blood triglycerides, and prevent clots in arteries, which may result in strokes, heart attacks and thromboses.
Helps protect the body against high blood pressure, inflammation, water retention, sticky platelets and lowered immune function.
Shortens recovery time for fatigued muscles after exertion.
Increases the body’s production of energy and also increases stamina.
Accelerates the healing of sprains and bruises.
Eases weight loss in people afflicted with obesity.
Stimulates brown fat cells and increases the metabolic rate making it easier to burn off fat.
Improves the absorption of Calcium.
Strengthens fingernails and toenails.
Can improve eyesight and perception of colors.
Can often improve the function of the liver.
Can relieve the side effects and stop development of many forms of cancer.
Can relieve some cases of Asthma.
Helpful in the treatment of Eczema, Psoriasis, and Dandruff.
Can relieve the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It can relieve the symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus.
Can alleviate some allergies.
Helps prevent Atherosclerosis (the accumulation of fatty deposits inside the blood vessels, especially the large and medium-sized arteries).
Lowers high blood pressure in Hypertension sufferers.
Has been scientifically proven to treat some cases of depression.
Can improve the mental function.
Can relieve some cases of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) in females.

Unfortunately, our current diets do not come close to meeting our daily essential fatty acids requirements. In addition, more typical foods like red meats and egg yolks can actually encourage the body’s production of bad prostaglandins. Flax Seed oil can help restore the body’s natural balance of good and bad prostaglandins.

Dr. Johanna Budwig and her Use of Flax to Cure Disease
Dr. Johanna Budwig is one of Germany’s top biochemists, seven time Nobel Prize nominee, as well one of the best cancer researchers throughout all of Europe is one of the greatest authorities on diet and its relation to health and well-being. Dr. Budwig lectured on the connection between “bad” fats like hydrogenated margarines and illness as well as the importance of essential fatty acids back in the 1950s. Dr. Budwig said, “Without these fatty acids, the respiratory enzymes cannot function and the person suffocates, even when he is given oxygen-rich air. A deficiency in these highly unsaturated fatty-acids impairs many vital functions. First of all, it decreases the person’s supply of available oxygen. We cannot survive without air and food; nor can we survive without these fatty acids.” She recognized that with the advent and popularity of hydrogenated and overprocessed oils came an increase in the rates of several serious illnesses. She realized that the way foods are now processed eliminates virtually all of the essential fatty acids. So, Dr. Budwig decided to focus her career on finding the dietary solution to cure diseases that affect so many people in the world.

Dr. Budwig has spent a lot of time in her career studying the blood of cancer patients. In fact, one of her observations discovered that in general, blood that comes from a healthy person contains far greater levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids than blood samples taken from someone who is ill.
She began to test her hypothesis on cancer patients, involving a combination of organic flaxseed oil and quark, a type cultured whey used in Germany equivalent to cold processed whey powder.

Dr. Budwig chose organic flaxseed oil because it is the richest source of Omega 3 essential fatty acids, as well as being well-tolerated by most people and easily assimilated. She opted to mix the oil with quark because of its high levels of sulfurated protein. She knew from her extensive studies that this type of healthy oil requires a sulfurated protein in order for it to be utilized in the body. Specifically, when the protein combined with the oil, Dr. Budwig discovered that the flaxseed oil would actually become water soluble, meaning that it would be absorbed more easily. In order to achieve results like Dr. Budwig a combination of the oil and protein is necessary.

Amazingly, Dr. Budwig found that after only three short months on her flaxseed oil-quark combination, cancer patients began to improve. Tumors shrunk in size, patients’ strength returned, and further blood analysis showed that the infamous greenish-yellow substance did indeed go away. Phosphatide and lipoprotein levels returned to normal, and red blood cell amounts were once again at healthy amounts. She was even able to help the patients whose doctors had told to “go home and die.” In fact, after over 10 years of clinical research, Dr. Budwig’s combination of 2-5 tablespoons of organic flaxseed oil combined with one quarter cup of quark has been used successfully in Europe to treat a variety of diseases in addition to cancer, including arteriosclerosis, eczema, stomach and intestinal disorders, arthritis, and strokes.

The Average adult would do well with 1-2 tablespoons per day. People with significant health issues should consult their health care practitioner about using 4 tablespoons per day. To get the all the benefits of Dr. Budwig`s research of combining it with sulfured amino acids, take the oil at the same time with Cold Processed Whey 1-1.5 scoops.
